Tamiya 35076 British SAS Pink Panther Land Rover Kit

Since the 1970's the Special Air Service (SAS) has used this Land Rover long wheel based Mk II Jeep. This version lacks windscreen and side doors, but carries mounts for two general purpose machine guns.

A normal crew consists of three people, a driver, commander (and front gunner) and radio operator (and rear gunner). Sometimes a fourth man is carried.

3 smoke candle dischargers are mounted at each corner of the vehicle and special equipment includes a spotlight, pioneer tools, stowage lockers and a rear tailboard extension which is used to carry stores.

With extra fuel tanks the vehicle has a road range of 1,100 miles and weighs 3 tons fully stored and equipped.

In desert operations the SAS Land Rovers are painted to suit the terrain, in this case a sand-pink, which has led to the nickname "Pink Panther" being applied to this model.
