My Story
Like many men (and some women!) I had a Hornby train set as a child.
I loved that I could make the train run along the track just like the real thing. I could get it to couple up to coaches and trucks. I could get it to run on a different track just by switching the points! And I could build my own railway station and have people on it! Porters with carts of luggage. Station Masters. Passengers with their children in tow. It was just like my trips to the real railway station!! And I could build the countryside around it. Trees. Hedges. Cars. Vans. There were so many things I could have bought with my pocket money…
But, one day, my train set was packed away and it was never brought out again. I missed it at first but, as they say, out of sight out of mind. And so, I eventually forgot about Hornby. Until the birth of my son. It made me reflect on my childhood… and then I remembered the Hornby train set. I was determined that my son would get the same enjoyment out of a train set that I did all those years ago, he was going to have a train set (whether he liked it or not!).
So, I looked on the internet and bought a set from an online shop. I went and collected it and found it was someone selling model railway “stuff” from his bedroom. I went back a few months later to buy a railway station…. and he had stopped trading and was now selling something entirely different. I was gobsmacked.
But it opened my eyes up to a possibility I’d never considered. I could sell model railways myself. I could open a model shop. I could sell online. And so, I opened the shop. On 1st March 2015.
It’s been a hard slog. I had to learn how to deal with suppliers; how to get customers to the shop; bookkeeping; websites. But I’ve built a business that supplies products from Hornby as well as Bachmann and Dapol, and we also stock Airfix models and Scalextric cars and track.
So, here I am a few years later, the shop is very busy and with the new website by Graham Wales of Starwood Systems and his continued support and development, the website is doing incredibly well, and going from strength to strength.

Our model shop is located at The Old Dairy Farm Craft Centre, Upper Stowe, Near Weedon,
Northampton NN7 4SH. You can pop in and see our huge range of products Monday to Saturday 10.30am - 5.00pm, and on Sundays from 11.00am - 4.00pm.
